American Circular Textiles Convenes French Ambassador, U.S. Industry Leaders for Transatlantic Policy Salon and Capitol Hill Lobby Day
Coalition advances domestic manufacturing agenda through circular textile policy amid historic trade moment
WASHINGTON, D.C. — American Circular Textiles (AMCIRC), the leading coalition of U.S. companies advancing the circular textile economy, hosted its inaugural annual Policy Salon: A Transatlantic Dialogue at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. on April 14, followed by a full day of Congressional meetings on Capitol Hill on April 15.
The evening opened with remarks from Caroline Monvoisin, Consul General of France in Washington, D.C., who welcomed attendees and underscored the importance of transatlantic collaboration on textile policy and sustainability.
The evening featured a panel discussion on circular textile policy and trade between France and the U.S. Panelists included Barbara Pompilli, French Ambassador for the Environment; Chloe Songer, Co-Founder of SuperCircle; Chris Austin, General Counsel of Circ®; and James Peterson, Product Management at Reju.
On April 15, AMCIRC members participated in nearly a dozen meetings across the House and Senate, advocating for policies that would bolster domestic textile manufacturing, create jobs, and keep materials in circulation.
Members in attendance included: The Textile Innovation Engine of North Carolina, eBay, Goodwill Industries International, Reju, SuperCircle, TERSUS Solutions, Circ®, MacroCycle Technologies, and Unclaimed Baggage.
AMCIRC’s federal policy agenda centered on five priorities: special tariff treatment for secondhand imports, trademark and counterfeit reform to protect resellers, incentives for circular and domestic manufacturing, and technology-neutral recycling definitions.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture the value of textiles as a resource in the U.S. — creating jobs, protecting the environment, and building opportunities for global trade,” said Rachel Van Metre Kibbe, Founder of American Circular Textiles.
